October 17, 1974 was the day Austin City Limits welcomed Willie Nelson to the stage for the first time to tape the pilot episode of what would go on to be the longest running music television show in American history.

Aside from his original performance, Nelson has the most appearances on the series of any performer (eighteen to be exact), was the inaugural inductee into the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame, and graces the entrance to ACL Live at the Moody Theater by way of bronze statue.

Willie Nelson will be joined by very special guests Asleep at the Wheel. The western swing legends, led by founder Ray Benson, have the second longest history with Austin City Limits, appearing on ACL's very first regular season episode (Season 1, Episode 1). In the five decades that have followed, they've appeared an additional ten times, including a pair of shows joined by Willie.

Willie Nelson performs on the pilot episode of Austin City Limits, 1974.

Asleep at the Wheel performs on Austin City Limits Season 1, 1975.

  • Those selected to attend will be notified by email between Thursday, September 26th and Friday, September 27th and will need to opt in to receive further updates.
